The Database Engineer Role

As a Database Engineer, you will take shared ownership over the database architecture to support the analysis of large, complex data sets to support Ambulatory Clinical Documentation Improvement initiatives with healthcare systems across the country.  You will help coordinate data collection from clients, import the data into our data warehouse and data model, and develop queries to support the analysis of a variety of clinical measures. You will work closely with both the CDI analytics team and the data and infrastructure technology team.  You will be expected to work both independently and as part of a team. The ideal candidate will have impeccable people skills and be able to gracefully navigate complex environments with multiple stakeholders. You will also be expected to exhibit sound judgment while solving problems, prioritizing, and demonstrating attention to detail in your work, and being flexible when new information is introduced. The Database Engineer Experience

Our client provides world-class solutions for complex business issues faced by the world's most respected hospitals and health systems. They offer a series of products and services within the healthcare industry, targeted to help healthcare organizations improve performance and survive in a value-based purchasing environment. Our products help improve operational and billing processes, driving incremental financial improvement, and ultimately helping improve outcomes for clients. This individual would have significant prior Microsoft SQL database experience working with large, complex datasets (healthcare claim-level detail preferred) and be responsible for data import (ETL), database design, data modeling, developing SQL queries, and database code tuning and optimization. Experience with Tableau or similar data visualization tools would also
be beneficial. 

Examples include:
- Function as database engineer on the CDI team, supporting multiple clients, and coordinating work with the data and infrastructure teams
- Develop summary and claim level analyses utilizing patient claims data
- Work with the data and infrastructure team to design and build out an Azure SQL Managed Instance (MI) data warehouse and associated data models
- Collaborate with the technology team to design and develop modern, secure, and performant data ingestion solutions
- Become a subject matter expert and help the Ambulatory CDI team make strategic decisions on data model structure and outputs
- Coordinate with project teams to address data request questions that may arise from Client IT contacts
- Collaborate with non-technical team members and leadership on a regular basis
- Communicate effectively with all associates and business contacts and promote a strong sense of teamwork

The Database Engineer Requirements
- BS/BA in computer science or related field
- Minimum of 3 years of experience with Microsoft SQL Server and Azure SQL MIs
- Demonstrated ability to design, create and manipulate complex databases
- Experience with database design with well-honed SQL skills, the ability to create relational data models, create and adjust complex views and stored procedures, tune
database performance, and perform quality control testing using SQL
- Experience with designing and architecting database solutions using Microsoft Azure SQL MIs
- Experience in performance tuning of queries, using SQL Profiler, evaluating execution plans, and other methods
