Job Description

Position Summary:  Support for all employees (union and non-union), Supervisors, and Managers regarding all HR administrative issues, benefits, recruiting, onboarding and compensation at multiple mill sites. 

**Please note - the location for this position is in Natural Dam, NY.

Essential Functions: 

·      Responsible for recruiting needed employees, handling workforce issues/problems over multiple mill locations as assigned, and assuring that current HR practices are in place and within all federal, state and local requirements.

  • Advises managers and supervisors on interpretation of all HR policies and procedures.  Actively stays current on regulations and laws impacting employment.

  • Manages all paperwork for Disability, FMLA, reviews, employee changes, and status changes. 

·      Maintains all employee files as per company policy.

  • Works with managers and supervisors to assure performance reviews are completed on a timely basis.  Guides merit increase thinking and monitors all pay increases suggested for fairness and internal equity.

  • Works with managers and supervisors to assist with terminations and other employee actions.

  • Responsible to assure that the Employee Handbook is updated and accurate and distributed/explained to all employees.

  • Performs duties in support of recruiting such as testing, reference checks, background screens, coordinating Occupational Health appointments, and follow up on results, and all new employee orientations.

  • Performs all newly eligible employee benefit orientations for medical, dental, vision and 401K.  Follow up on all paperwork, enrolling online applicants, follow up on missing items, answering all questions on benefits and updating spreadsheets and approving payment for accounting. 

  • Coordinates all drug and alcohol testing for the mill locations assigned.  Updates Managers and Supervisors on any positive results and acts according to policy.

  • Works to cultivate a culture that promotes employee feedback and encourages top performance.  Is present and visible in the plants to encourage employee interaction and create a culture of availability.

  • Respect and conform to all accepted safe work practices and standards.


Other Responsibilities:

·      Any other duties as assigned.

·      Coordinates sensibly with other HR resources in Company to assure a common approach when needed.

Education, Experience and Skills Required:  Must possess at least five years experience in the human resources and employee relations field.  Must have union experience.  Must possess significant computer skills including access and spreadsheets.  Excellent mathematical, financial and verbal and written communication skills are required.  Must be able to work well with others as a team member.  Detailed knowledge of all Federal and State laws and regulations affecting employment law. P.H.R. certification preferred.

Physical Requirements:  Must be able to sit for 4+ hours per day at a desk and computer terminal.  Must be able to travel to mills on a regular basis, outside educational seminars, and must be able to handle numerous projects at once with time deadlines. Must work accurately and have the ability to prioritize.  Understands and is prepared to handle work demands outside of normal working hours.
