The Catering Sales Manager is responsible for soliciting new catering accounts, entertaining and maintaining relationships with existing accounts to meet and/or exceed food and beverage revenue goals. Oversee client functions to ensure customer satisfaction. To perform duties and maintain professional job posture at all times.

Job Description

  • Key Job Functions
    • Generate revenue by generating leads and converting them to sales with a heavy concentration in the wedding, corporate, local and social markets.
    • Responsible for contracting and closing wedding, corporate, local and social catering business.
    • Develop, actively solicit, and map group business accounts per defined territory.
    • Assist with selling and implementing catering promotions and maximizing revenue by conducting meetings creating and developing menus for the wedding and corporate markets.
    • Offer personalized solutions for our clients and enhance our reputation and business by working with our Banquet Operations Team to ensure we exceed our clientele’s expectations.
    • Close on inbound leads and site visits.
    • Solicit new and existing accounts to meet/exceed revenue goals through the successful execution of closing on business leads received directly by phone to the company, telephone solicitation, outside sales calls, site inspections and written communication.
    • Prepare correspondence to customers, internal booking reports and file maintenance with aid of catering coordinator.
    • Participate in daily business review and/or leads review, pre-convention meetings, training and other catering sales related meetings as required.
    • Work with other departments within the hotel to provide quality service to customers.
    • Produce and distribute convention resume according to departmental standards prior to the first day of main group arrival and communicate any changes and updated information to hotel departments.
    • Distribute BEOs for group and affiliates 10 - 14 days prior to events, and/or according to departmental standards.
    • Serve on-site group and catering clients and respond to questions about the event including, but not limited to, group room blocks, food and beverage, the function space, ancillary and vendor services, affiliates/exhibitors and related billing processes
    • Monitor and assess service and satisfaction trends, evaluate and address issues and make improvements accordingly
    • Accurately forecast group rooms and group food and beverage revenues for assigned groups and affiliate business within a 5% variance.  Upsell all bookings to a goal of 20% per group assigned.  Drive Banquet and Catering Revenues to achieve departmental goals.
    • Attend community/social events and industry meetings.
    •  Develop/maintain knowledge of market trends, competition and customers.

A candidate for this position must possess the following applicable knowledge, skills and abilities and be able to demonstrate and provide applicable examples to support his/her competency.

  • Requires exceptional verbal communication skills. 
  • Candidate must be able to read and write to facilitate the established departmental communication process to include but not limited to: Business Letters, Proposals, Banquet Event Orders, Group Resumes, Memorandums and the proficient use of email.  
  • Excellent inter-personal and sales related experience.
  • Proven sales ability and skill in both oral and written form.  To include the ability to perform site inspections, the ability to close business, the ability to up-sell revenues. 
  • Exceptional organizational and supervisory skills.
  • Knowledge of food and beverage menus, food preparation and presentation.
  • Ability to act independently with minimal or no supervision.
  • Ability to communicate customer needs and resolve complaints independently.
  • Must possess basic computational ability.  
  • Must possess computer skills, including, but not limited to, Microsoft Word, Excel and Delphi /or/Daylight.
  • Ability to establish action plan, master goals and meet deadlines as assigned.
