Position Summary:   

  • Responsible for the activities associated with organizing, optimizing and maintaining the finished goods warehouse, receiving dock, truck loading and coordination of incoming and outgoing transportation services and materials.
  • Supervises warehouse, shipping and receiving
  • Seek out low cost freight options that maximize customer schedules and logistic requirements while meeting or exceeding budget objectives.
  • Monthly report reconciliation of freight invoices, carrier bill of ladings and job costs.

Essential Functions:  

Active member of plant Leadership teams and plant Safety committees.

Works closely with plant managers, customer service, and sales to support optimization of production processes and minimize finished goods inventories, emphasizing a lean approach to operations.

Directs and supervises the leads and warehouse personnel. Works closely with leads in driving process improvement insuring efficiency and effectiveness of the warehouse systems and inventories.

Insure orders picked and delivered, as well as material received, meet paperwork requirements; accurate and on time.

Serves as a point of contact to the entire organization for warehousing and in-house logistics activities.

Analyze, modify and improve the warehouse layout to maximize storage and retrieval efficiencies and emphasize the 5S philosophy. 

Requisition warehouse and shipping support materials ensuring cost effectiveness.

Works closely with accounting to reconcile freight invoices and bills of ladings.

Manage all documentation such as advanced shipping notices, pick lists, bills of ladings, receiving paperwork.

Oversees customer specific shipping audits, incoming and outgoing load inspections

Oversees and optimizes the process and sale of baled waste paper

Complies with DOT and OSHA requirements.

Respect and conform to all accepted safe work practices and standards.

Initiates action to prevent problems, documents quality problems, contributes solutions to problems, verifies implementation of solutions and controls further processing when a problem is identified

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Directly supervise Shipping and Receiving Leads and department staff. Plans, schedules, assigns and reviews work.
  • Approve all overtime and ensure that labor costs are within the annual budget.
  • Ensure that employees are adequately trained, equipped and motivated so that work can be accomplished in a safe, timely and cost effective manner.
  • Hires, evaluates and supervises all department personnel within company rules.  Counsels and disciplines employees.

Other Responsibilities:

  • Implements programs and procedures required to ensure plant cleanliness.
  • Assists with planning and implementing plant improvements, layouts and expansions.
  • Attends ongoing in-house safety team meetings for all facilities
  • Attends supervisor/production meetings as necessary to maintain relationships and provide feedback
  • Observe and conform to all company rules and regulations as outlined in the “Employee Handbook.”
  • Perform other duties as required

Education & Experience Required:

  • ·       AA or BA degree in a related technical field preferred.
  • ·      A minimum five years’ experience in the shipping, transportation, warehouse management or operation of a process manufacturing facility or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge and experience in freight or logistics management systems
  • Knowledge of a corrugated/litho plant is an asset.
  • Knowledge of safety regulations, procedures for control of hazardous materials and waste management.

Skills & Physical Requirements:

Proficiency in using computer systems and applications associated with the performance of assigned work. 

Experience supervising, training and developing others.  Ability to solve problems; work in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision, and demonstrated ability to multi-task. Ability to successfully communicate with people in all levels and positions. Must possess excellent organizational skills. Strong management and interpersonal skills combined with excellent written and verbal communication skills. Must be able to work in a warehouse environment and handle multiple tasks at the same time with a high stress level.  Must be able to lift 50lbs, climb stairs on a consistent basis and stand/walk on concrete for 8 to 10 hours.
