Job Description

SUMMARY

As an Engineering Technician, your primary role is to support engineering in development projects. This includes but is not limited to setting up and breaking down prototype machinery, conducting tests on development projects and recording all the relevant data under no supervision. You would also be required to troubleshoot equipment in the field and perform the necessary repairs of both electrical and mechanical components. You will also be required to effectively communicate and coordinate with external customers.

Essential Functions:

  • Strong Electrical aptitude
  • Ability to customer interface
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot prototypes in the field
  • Assist with prototype installs in the field
  • Travel domestically – potentially up to 60% 
  • Do internal/external service training
  • Support Signode Service when required
  • Assist in production training for newly launched products
  • Excellent Documentation Skills
  • Assemble and breakdown prototype equipment in the lab and in the field
  • Ability to read electrical and mechanical schematics without supervision
  • Setup and modify equipment independently, under direction of an engineer
  • Ability to troubleshoot basic electrical and mechanical equipment components
  • Advanced wiring and PLC/HMI operation and understanding of ladder logic
  • Knowledge of common external factory safety procedures
  • Used advanced assembly methods. (Welding/Plasma cutting and light machining)
  • Setup and perform product testing under no supervision
  • Excellent documentation skills
  • Communicate suggestions and feedback to engineering on experimental setups and performance
  • Reliable and consistent performance
  • Collect, document and communicate data and observations
  • Ability to utilize basic measurement tools (tape measure, caliper and micrometer)
  • Ability to utilize common assembly tools (drills, hammers and wrenches)
  • Assist engineering as needed
  • Strong mechanical aptitude
  • Ability to use a fork truck

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

Education: 

  • Associates degree or equivalent work experience

Experience / Abilities:

  • Minimum of 7-10 years of experience
  • Experience in development or technical support of industrial equipment a plus
  • Experience working directly with engineers in a technical support capacity
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical and electrical schematics required
  • Excellent communication skills, written and verbal

Computer skills:

  • Proficiency in MS Office suite (Word, Excel and Outlook)
  • Experience in SharePoint, Solidworks and Autodesk CAD a plus
