Berlin Packaging is seeking a driven and successful Senior Accountant to join our Finance team at our corporate headquarters in downtown Chicago. Explosive organic and acquisitive growth has created the need to enhance this role. This position will play a key role in helping our Company transition to a financial statement cadence and regimen more reflective of a public company.  Interested candidates should possess proven technical accounting skills and a strong process orientation that includes a solid understanding of internal controls. Primary Duties & Responsibilities:    

  • Day-to-Day Accounting Activities:  Responsible for journal entries, assist with the monthly closing process, fixed asset accounting, account analysis, ad-hoc analysis, preparation of account reconciliations, sub-ledger reconcilement, and commission calculations and analysis        
  • Teamwork:  Ability to be flexible, multi-task, and work well with the team
  • Process Redesign & Improvement:  Assist with the evaluation of current processes and procedures with a lens toward streamlining cumbersome or manually-intensive work
  • Internal Controls:  Assist in the formulation of internal controls, control documentation and policies to help the Company transition to a Sarbanes-Oxley compliant control environment
  • Annual Audit:  Participate in relevant areas of the annual audit

Qualified Professionals Will Possess:   

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, CPA or MBA preferred        
  • Minimum 5 years of increasingly relevant experience (Big 4 public accounting a plus, but not required)        
  • Strong knowledge of accounting, financial processes, internal controls (Sarbanes-Oxley a plus, but not required)        
  • Good communicator; ability and desire to interface cross-functionally, and with outside service providers        
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills        
  • Working knowledge of accounting and financial software systems (PeopleSoft, Sage Fixed Assets, and Hyperion preferred) and strong Excel, Qlik and other data management capabilities        
  • Detail and project oriented with the ability to juggle multiple priorities        
  • Must live local to Chicago, IL to be considered
